Visit The Tin Shed at Rangitata in the midst of South Canterbury farmland, for an authentic New Zealand experience.

Our country store is famous for its vast range of New Zealand-made knitwear and related products made from New Zealand’s finest natural yarns and fibres, merino wool, possum fur, mohair and alpaca. From luxury possum fur throws to basic essentials like socks and fine merino undergarments, The Tin Shed caters for all budgets and tastes and our friendly and experienced local staff will help you find exactly what you are looking for.

PURE NEW ZEALND WOOLLY AND WARM
Our old shed, first built in the late 1800s, and later extended has grown into a thriving store. It is now world-famous for supplying top-quality NZ-made wool products, sourced directly from New Zealand’s top manufacturers and craftspeople. We have one of the country’s largest ranges of lightweight merino fashion knitwear including popular Bay Road Merinos for women. We also stock merino-possum knitwear, hand-knitted sweaters, throws, rugs, sheepskin boots and slippers and much more. We are proud to sell NZ-made wool and merino garments as they are made from natural, renewable and sustainable fibre, which we believe is the best choice for the consumer and the environment. By supporting NZ-made wool products we are also adding economic value to the wool, assisting in job creation and the retention of manufacturing skills in New Zealand.

OUR ANIMALS
Take a walk outside as our friendly farm animals would love to meet you. There is Pedro the handsome skewbald donkey, Hadley the alpaca and a flock of multi-coloured sheep. Our kune-kune pigs, Winnie, Pigley and Lucy, will to rush up to the fence demanding food, but they have been fed. If you want to be popular, ask a staff member for some animal snacks. You can also see heritage breed chickens and Enderby Island rabbits, a rare New Zealand breed.

OUR NATIVE GARDEN
We believe in taking care of the environment and try to find new ways to reduce waste and our environmental footprint. Each year we plant more native plants on our property. Many of New Zealand’s iconic plants, from tussocks to totara, can be seen in our native garden. Native plants provide a habitat for insects, skinks and birds and they are adapted to survive the dry summers and cold winters of Rangitata. Also around our grounds are pieces of old farm machinery, some intact, some in pieces and some recreated into new life as sculptures.
