Welcome to the 121st Mackenzie Highland Show.
I would like to welcome you to inspect some of the finest stock, enjoy a coffee and listen to local musicians. Wander into the Pet Tent or the ARA ‘Long Lunch’ Marquee and just watch some wonderful entertainment, including Lil Chuck, the One Man Skiffle Machine, sponsored by Fairlie Early Learners, Freestyle NZ, NZ’s most successful Motocross team and the Cowboy Challenge Showcase. There’s something for everyone!! Our equestrian events in the main ring are always a huge attraction, but don’t forget to check out the dog trials and show dogs on the way. Pedalmania is here with their wacky and weird array of bicycles and the carnival is sure to thrill.
It would not be a Mackenzie Show without the wonderful sound of the bagpipes and coupled with highland dancing you would be excused for thinking you were back in mother Scotland. While you are there, wander into the produce shed and you will see first-hand the quality of local produce, hand crafts, photographs and a large display of items from Mackenzie school children. The wood-chopping is another event that is always worth watching and with the skill of these axemen they would put my chainsaw to shame. Well worth stopping for a few minutes. This year our trade exhibition is the largest we have ever had at a Mackenzie Show so make sure you wander through. You never know what you might find. The Fairlie Museum will have a vintage machinery display. At mid-day we will be entertaining you with extra events in the main ring. These include a performance from western horses, dog trialling, a Highland games feature, and a very talented rider showing off freeriding and the control she has with her horse. Keep an eye out for these wonderful entertainment events.
The other event that is a must see is the shearing. These guys and girls are good and extremely talented. You definitely won’t see me up there on the board as I only partly qualified as a rousie. As you can see we have many events happening and I would like to thank all the many dedicated people that make this show happen. The work you all put into this shows the strength of our community and why the Mackenzie show continues to grow. A special thanks to my committee.
I am sure you will find something that will interest you at this year’s Mackenzie Highland Show, so once again welcome and please enjoy your day.
